Presenter: Dr. Molly Dragiewicz
This audio-conference will provide background and context on the development of anti-feminist father’s rights groups and offer a critical review of the literature and research on violence and gender.
Molly Dragiewicz is Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Criminology, Justice, and Policy Studies at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology outside of Toronto, Canada.
Her research interests include: violence and gender, anti-feminist fathers’ rights groups, battering and child custody, and human trafficking. Dr. Dragiewicz is also on the advisory board of CAVNET, the Communities Against Violence Network.
Her current research project documents the backlash against efforts to address violence against women in the United States using interviews with advocates, attorneys, and scholars. Recent publications include: “Understanding the Complexities of Feminist Perspectives on Woman Abuse: A Commentary on Donald G. Dutton’s Rethinking Domestic Violence.” Co-Authored with Walter S. DeKeseredy. Violence Against Women 13.8 (2007): 874-884, and Patriarchy Reasserted: Fathers’ Rights and Anti-VAWA Activism.” Feminist Criminology 3.2 (2008): 121-144.
Dr. Dragiewicz is currently writing a book on Booth v. Hvass, a lawsuit brought by fathers’ rights groups attacking funding for battered women’s services in Minnesota. For more information and resources visit www.mollydragiewicz.com.
MCBW offers a monthly audio conference discussion/training for member
programs. This is an opportunity to network with other members and
discuss important issues that affect programs working with battered
women and their children - without having to leave the office. Past
