Donate to MCBW and Its Member Programs
By partnering with the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women, you become part of a mission that strives every day to promote justice, provide safety, and prevent future harm for all battered women and their children. Your contribution helps shape the laws that affect all our communities, provides multiple services for women to escape domestic violence, and helps ensure that the programs that welcome families in crisis have the tools and resources to assist and support them.
Funding for battered women's programs in Minnesota is threatened. Since 2000, crime victim programs and battered women's shelters have received severe cuts in state funding. Most of these programs are small and have been working for years on shoestring budgets. MCBW is working hard to advocate on behalf of member programs to restore this funding so that they can continue to have the resources necessary to respond effectively to the needs of battered women and their children.
Unfortunately, the statistics demonstrate that domestic violence programs are needed now more than ever. In 2007:
- At least 22 women were murdered in cases where the suspected, alleged, or convicted perpetrator was a current or former husband, boyfriend, or intimate partner, or the perpetrator was a family member or household member of the deceased woman.
- At least 10 children under the age of 18 were murdered in cases where the suspected, alleged, or convicted perpetrator was the father, mother, guardian, babysitter, child care provider, or household/family member of the child, or the perpetrator was the parent's spouse or intimate partner.
- At least 3 friends or family members were murdered in domestic violence-related situations.
- At least 24 children were left motherless due to the domestic violence-related murder of their mothers.
Nowhere else does your dollar do so much. Every battered woman is someone's mother, daughter, sister, aunt, or grandmother. Let's work together to make sure that women and their children have everything they need to restore hope, dreams, and a future without violence.
