Donate to MCBW and Its Member Programs
By partnering with the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women, you become part of a mission that strives every day to promote justice, provide safety, and prevent future harm for all battered women and their children. Your contribution helps shape the laws that affect all our communities, provides multiple services for women to escape domestic violence, and helps ensure that the programs that welcome families in crisis have the tools and resources to assist and support them.
Most of the domestic violence programs around the state are small and have been working for years on shoestring budgets. MCBW is working hard to advocate on behalf of member programs to increase funding so that they have the resources necessary to respond effectively to the needs of battered women and their children.
Unfortunately, the statistics demonstrate that domestic violence programs are needed now more than ever. In 2008:
- At least 21 women were murdered in cases where the suspected, alleged, or convicted perpetrator was a current or former husband, boyfriend, or intimate partner, or the perpetrator was a family member or household member of the deceased woman.
- At least 7 children under the age of 18 were murdered in cases where the suspected, alleged, or convicted perpetrator was the father, mother, guardian, babysitter, child care provider, or household/family member of the child, or the perpetrator was the parent's spouse or intimate partner.
- At least 2 men were murdered by an intimate partner. One was killed by his male partner.
- At least 5 family members were murdered in domestic violence-related situations.
- At least 25 children were left motherless due to the domestic violence-related murder of their mothers.
Nowhere else does your dollar do so much. Every battered woman is someone's mother, daughter, sister, aunt, or grandmother. Let's work together to make sure that women and their children have everything they need to restore hope, dreams, and a future without violence.
NOTE: Good News! Congress has extended the IRA charitable rollover as part of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008. You can make a charitable gift directly from your IRA and it will not be taxed as income as long as:
- the gift is made in 2008 - 2009
- the IRA holder is age 70 1/2 or older
- the gift totals $100,000 or less each year
- the charity is eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions
- the withdrawal goes directly from the IRA to the charity
You also do not need to itemize your taxes to take advantage of the rollover.
